Review of Heathers the Musical

                       Heather's Review

It's 1989 at Westerberg High School, and at seventeen Veronica despairs at the hellish hierarchy that she has to face every day. It is where students like Martha, Veronica's best friend get tormented.

It is ruled by a clique called the Heather's. Heather McNamara, Heather Duke, and Heather Chandler. Three girls that think beauty, bulimia, and being a bitch is enough to run the show.

Then there are the total jocks of  the day that spoil it for everyone, Ram and Kurt. All they thought about was what was in-between their legs, and sex.

When the Heather's find out about Veronica's talent for forgery, they give her a makeover, letting her join their inner circle. Now that she is beautiful too Veronica feels fabulous.

The Heather's order Veronica to forge a love letter from Ram to Martha, tempting Veronica with the promise to popularity. Veronica's not happy, but the letter lands in Martha's hands anyway.

Jason Dean, “J.D.” criticises Veronica for betraying her friend. But after J.D. wins a fight against Ram and Kurt, Veronica finds herself attracted to him, and she begins to flirt with him. They fall for each other, and their love begins to grow.

Veronica soon realises that J.D. Is not so innocent after all.

The play deals with very serious issues of love, murder, rape, suicide, death, eating disorders, and so much more that goes on behind the walls of  Westerberg High School.  This play was very deep and straight to the point.

Watching some parts played out, was sometimes heartbreaking with some scenes a little disturbingly difficult to watch. Though it was often comical, and we all laughed out loud to the funny bits.

The stage was well set with great colourful lockers as props.

The cast performed really well, they were full of energy with lots of singing and dancing.

The theatre was fully booked, and packed to the rafters the night I went, so popularity checks in by my record.

I enjoyed the show, but I would definitely warn everyone that the plot is a very sensitive topic, and you may want to make sure that you fully understand that there are lots of unexpected triggers that may hit you hard.
